Cathedral

The Cathedral-Basilica of Santa María in Palma, also called the Cathedral of Mallorca, is the main religious building on the island of Mallorca.

It's impressive. A real surprise in the Mallorcan capital. I had seen countless photos but, until you are there, you are not aware of the magnitude of this Gothic style temple. Its most photogenic side is found in the Parque del Mar or Parc de la Mar. An esplanade with a large lake that reminds us of times gone by, when the Cathedral of Mallorca was next to the seafront.

It is unforgivable to leave Palma without enjoying the interior of the cathedral. Among other wonders, we find a beautiful play of light and colour thanks to the numerous rose windows and windows (among them is the largest Gothic rose window in the world), and impressive columns that reach a height of 21 metres. Antonio Gaudí was in charge of carrying out the renovation works on the cathedral at the beginning of the last century and I assure you that it will be easy to discover his personal stamp in countless details.

Castell de Bellver

It offers the best panoramic views over the entire city. Inside you can also enjoy the History Museum.

To start the day we will go to the furthest point of our journey, the imposing Bellver Castle. A defensive watchtower located on a hill more than 100 meters above sea level. It has a curious circular layout that is worth visiting and the best panoramic views over the entire city. Inside you can also enjoy the History Museum.
The journey here can be done by car, as it has a very large car park, or by bus. The tourist bus has a stop at the castle itself. The other lines (3, 20 and 46) will leave you at the bottom. You will have to walk up the hill in approximately 20 minutes.
In addition, from here you can enjoy a wonderful sunset. And speaking of this subject, I recommend reading the article with the best places to see the sunset in Mallorca.
Places of Interest

Palacio Real de la Almudaina

One of the most beautiful historical buildings in the city. It is located next to the Cathedral.

A symbol of civil power for hundreds of years, the Moors first passed through here, and then, after the reconquest, welcomed members of the Spanish royal courts. Even today, it serves as the official residence of the royal family during their visits to the island.
What is fascinating about its architecture (both on its exterior façade and in the interior rooms) is precisely that it reflects the influences of all the cultures that have passed through here. Today we can enjoy a Christian palace in Gothic style that preserves the original structure of a Muslim Alcázar.
Also, don't forget to stroll through the Hort del Rei gardens. They are located right next to the palace and in the past were also royal property.

Barrio judío de Palma

It is a very large area that includes the territory between Plaza Santa Eulália and Porta d’es Camp.

In the 13th century it housed up to 5,000 Jews. A figure that gives us an idea of the size of the largest Jewish quarter in Mallorca, called Call in Mallorcan. The Hebrew heritage of the last Jewish descendants who were forced to convert to Christianity has come down to us through narrow, shady and very quiet streets.
It is a very large area that includes the territory between Plaza Santa Eulália and Porta d’es Camp. All these streets are worth walking through and you will find some monuments of great value such as the Church of Montesión, the gardens of Can Fontirroig or the Torre de L´Amor.
